MIDNIGHT CLEARLY

Endless naked universe as is,

A permanent station, silent x,

Our grace period placement

Half in spotlight with trumpets

Blown judgmentally from rungs

Leading up to prickly stars in

The velvet desert sky beyond.

No chance the unseen force

Will dance off the clean smoke

Rituals of medicine minds?

Unheard sounds with drum energy

Unfocused, lie waiting, rumored

Incoherent as natural impulses,

Faint as nebulous glimmering.

I celebrate with all saviors

Who strain to break seals,

Call out guttural downspout words,

Crouch in gargoyle’s darkest

Heavenly eaves, their manic

bugle boy fusion playing,

Poised to set hip spirits in motion.

Who is this midnight clearly

Aiming its arrows down toward,

Arranging its branched levels

And frosty ice tingly pinpoints

If not clearly at me this night,

This frightening unknowable eye

Through which I fear heights?

Sun dots, pounding out drama

Overtake my habitat heart,

My bowl of overhead dizziness,

And I whisper an insipid thanks

Like the rustling of a cheap cloth

Before ineffable food phantoms,

And their devoured animals.
