“The Group of Nine”

The Art Critique group, exhibiting as “The Group of Nine,” was formed over
25 years ago by Anne Newbold Perkins, resident artist at the Richmond Public Library. Anne invited ten persons interested in developing their artwork by holding a monthly critique led by a professional artist.

Those leading Art Critique were secured by Anne Perkins and asked to stay for two years. Some stayed less and some stayed longer. The current artist invited to lead the group is Susanne Arnold. Anne Perkins moved to Wilmington, NC, two years ago. Her presence is missed very much, but her legacy lives on.

“The Group of Nine” includes Art Critique participants Ann Hart, JoAnne Jacobs-Hoskins, Connie Maass, Janice McMurray, Mary Melton, Toni OBrion, Linda Shields, and Betty Wilton, with Anne Perkins (emeritus) and Susanne Arnold, group facilitator. The participants work in a variety of mediums, including painting, collage, printmaking, mixed media and relief. Their work displays a range of interests and styles, from abstraction to realism. Each artist possesses an extensive history of exhibition venues and community involvement with the visual arts.

The exhibition at art6 Gallery will be on exhibit from March 2 - April 1, 2007.
