Change:
Speaking generally, my attitude is that change is good for the soul,
cleansing. Although it can be stressful, forcing us to face it kicking
and screaming, change offers opportunity and fresh perspective. As it
relates to Art6, I feel really good about the changes we have logged
into our first two years of existence. When I attended that first
meeting at Cafe Guttenburg, invited by Chuck, I listened to the concept
of an Art6 yet to be born. I knew practically no one with whom I would
be raising this baby, and very little of what it would look like. Still
I joined, feeling excited about all the potential of it. Somehow this
group of unrelated people managed to work hard toward common goals, and
pull a very respectable gallery out of our collective hat. I think we
can feel proud that our shows and events have been some of the best
Richmond has to offer, in a space as good as Richmond can boast.
Looking back, I realize I had very little idea how the gallery was
operating beyond my part of the equation. It seems many of us came to
that realization once we were out of the weeds of major start-up. It
became obvious that we needed to make the next forward leap in creating
a framework that would solidify our group as one smoothly working
entity. Of course there was some upheaval involved in getting there, but
that is an inevitable component of change. I think we have created a
strong, accountable foundation from which to operate, one which we are
all plugged into.
I am grateful for the vision and commitment that our founding members
had in starting such a monumental venture. I am grateful for our new
board members, capable people willing to commit their time to the huge
task of running our organization. And I am grateful for the experience
of working with such an interesting and diverse group of talented
people, who have become my friends. It takes all of us to
pull it off, but what a gratifying reward to be a part of our creation,
a jewel in Richmond, and a very popular destination for seekers of the
arts experience! I think we should be complimenting ourselves on good
change management-- and we did it together!
Respectfully submitted,

Changing the way things were:
I've done something no one has done
for Art6, put a page for shop6 online, begun hawking the wares, made the
daily attendance sheet available and I have put some life, color and
music into what had been an austere website, oh, which now belongs to
Art6 and not Australia.
For those who are concerned about
what their dues are spent on I would ask that everyone print necessary
documents at home if possible and not rely on gallery resources for
printed copies of the daily attendance sheet, Broadstrokes, fliers
or any of the various forms available online here at ART6.org.
I would like to explore other voices
here, besides directors, publicity and editorial. I cannot do all of this alone, you must provide the content, critique,
docs, commentary, news, coming events, links, background, profiles,
pictures, ads for artist's work in shop6, whatever you think this
website should carry. I am willing to experiment for now, change the way
things were if you want me to.
Sincerely,
Your Webmaster
Please don't be shy, I need input
from Art6 gallery members and supporters. Please be my next guest. I'm
not making fun with the eyes photos, I just want it to be a little over
the edge.
Applause, applause for guest
editorialist
Jude Schlotzhauer. Here is a more accurate photo. Her writing leaves me
in the dust by comparison. I had no idea, but I was told she had a great
deal to say about Art6 of late.
